Chief Executive Officer
Tom Mende has nineteen years of broad management experience and extensive technical product expertise within the Orthopaedic industry developed in a variety of roles with Howmedica, Stryker and Sofamor Danek based out of Australia, Europe and the United States.
Tom is responsible for strategic direction of Australian Biotechnologies, and general management of the company. He also oversees the implementation of clinical trials and development of all new human tissue based products.
Chief Operating Officer
Simon Berry has extensive experience in the healthcare market, which included a technical consulting role for Smith & Nephew Richards specializing in joint replacement implants and trauma based products for Orthopaedic surgery and was then appointed to introduce leading camera technology for the commencement of endoscopic surgery. In 1995 he was offered a five-year contract with Wright Medical Technology to distribute a range of Orthopaedic implants with a key focus on the introduction of Osteoset, an osteoconductive bone graft substitute.
He is also the Managing Director of Applied Biomedics, which manufactured an Australian made and designed disposable surgical device for laparoscopic surgery.
Simon is be responsible for strategic direction, company management, contract negotiations for IP and joint venture partnerships.
Tissue and Bone Bank Director
Sharon Bryce was the co-ordinator of the Queensland Bone Bank from 1993 to 2001 with responsibility for daily operational management of the bank, including staffing, retrievals, donor assessment, Allograft allocation, and Allograft manufacture, staff training as well as the implementation and maintenance of the quality management system. Sharon has provided expert advice on all aspects of bone grafting to surgeons throughout Australia.
Sharon developed the freeze drying protocol for the Queensland Bone Bank. This protocol was accepted by the TGA, which allowed freeze-dried Allografts to be listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods, a first in Australia
Sharon is recognised as an expert in all aspects of musculoskeletal tissue banking and one of only three certified Tissue Banking Specialists in Australia.
Sharon has provided consultation services to the NSW Bone Bank to implement the donor retrieval program and the frozen Allograft program on behalf of Australian Biotechnologies.
